Democrats announce lead Senate candidate in SA

The Australian Democrats have announced their lead Senate candidate for the forthcoming Federal election.  She is mother of three and well-known animal rights activist, Jeanie Walker.

Ms Walker who led the Democrats in a strong campaign in the state election said she was proud that the party had put their faith in her again.

"There is a great need for a party to once again represent the progressive centre of politics in Australia.

"If the Democrats had been in the Senate, Australia would have had an emissions trading scheme by now.  Our history shows that we have always negotiated with the government to better the legislation introduced by government, rather than block.

"That role has been sorely missed in the Senate over the past three years, and I will be working to bring that back" said Ms Walker.
