Why
I am running as a Democrat for the Senate
I am standing because I am tired of Howard’s knee jerk reactions
and unimpressed with Rudd's “me too“ approach on important issues
like climate change, water, community services to name a few.
For too long the major parties have neglected the
outer-metropolitan and rural areas, only to appear at election
time and then disappear just a quick. We are experiencing
bountiful economic times, with the mining and export industries
going gang-busters, the tax man's cup is spilling over, but that
bounty is not bring shared. I ask what happens when the bubble
bursts and who is thinking of the future! Australia needs a
progressive vision for the future and now is time to plan and fund
it.
I want to build on the work I have previously done both with the
community and with the Australian Democrats and provide a positive
future for my children and their children too.
Why
should you vote for me?
My experience in running small business and my community and
industry involvement have given me the understanding to represent
all South Australians , and especially rural and regional South
Australians .
I believe in honest and open government , free from shackles of
interest groups and party funders . As your representative in the
Senate I will look after your interests , not some back room donor
or interstate power broker.
About
Me
I am 46 and I have lived on the family grain and sheep farm (which
I run with my wife Jackie) at Port Vincent all my life. We both
are aware of our impact on the environment - Over the recent
seasons we have moved our cropping to a no till system, and have
re-vegetated some 20 + hectares . We also run YP Computer Services
which provides highly personalised computer sales and training. We
have two young sons, Patrick and James, adopted from Korea.
My community involvement included ten years on the committee of
Yorke Peninsula Rural Counselling Service. I am currently on, my
local town’s progress committee and on my son’s school Governing
Council as treasurer .
My industry involvement has included positions with the SA Farmers
Federation, including chairman of the Community Services Committee
and a board member. This has given me broad experience in
negotiation with government and dealing with members issues at
both state and nationally with issues like transport, community
health, telecommunications and the introduction of GMOs. I was a
community representative on the Yorke Regional Development Board
involved with regional issues including business development,
water and waste management.
I remain actively involved in the YP Alkaline Soils Group, and I
chair the Chemcert SA board. |
