I have lived in the Port Adelaide Electorate for over 45 years, being a 4th generation Port Adelaidean.
I have been an activist in legislative and policy change for over 15 years, predominately with the provision of safe, quality health services. I am not afraid of taking on the system when things are wrong. To give a few examples of this, I successfully lobbied for the Health and Community Health Services Complaints Commission to be established in this State, successfully represented myself in Court against the Medical Board of South Australia, as well as mobilised local community people to which stopped an inappropriate development in my area. One way my work in the health sector was acknowledged was being awarded the Centennial Medal for services to the Community.
Life experiences have helped me achieve my goals, not formal qualifications.
I am married with 2 adult children.
I have helped in the establishment of several groups, including Health Rights and Community Action, The Health Consumers Alliance of South Australia and Love Your Backyard. I am currently the Chairperson of Health Rights and Community Action and Love Your Back Yard.
Key areas of concern:
1. Ensuring all Australians have the opportunity to attain safe, quality, timely and affordable health care.
2. Encouraging people to embrace cultural diversity instead of fear of differences.
3. Making Climate Change a priority issue that is about real outcomes not just meaningless, albeit popular words.
4. Protecting the rights of all to a good lifestyle, with fair wages, affordable housing,
5. Stopping the current government policies which promote a divisive Australia.
