Gil
is sixty years old and was born in Adelaide. He lived at Clarendon
until 1956 when they moved to Port Lincoln.
Gil has worked in
the fishing, construction, building, transport, wholesale, retail,
education, manufacturing, mining, farming and arts sectors. He has
also been involved in many community organisations including
museums, sporting, arts, cultural and natural history bodies.
Gil’s other areas
of interest include: South Australian Maritime History; the
Exploration Period; Early Settlement; Aboriginal European
Violence; Traditional Aboriginal Coastal Economies, including fish
traps and related camp sites and water places.
Gil and Fran have
a low energy, environment friendly house on acreage just a few
minutes out of Port Lincoln. They designed it to have the smallest
possible impact they could manage. They have been planting native
trees for nearly thirty years, including large areas of direct
seeding. They have done pioneering work on revegetation and
welcome others to come and see just what can be done to change the
environment. The property has been organic for over twenty years
and includes a Permaculture area and experiments in low care fruit
trees. They are self sufficient for water, using rain water for
the house and garden and dam and spring water for stock.
Gil
believes the people of this Electorate need to do something to
stir the major Parties into taking an interest in Grey.
Gil
believes in decentralisation and with the cooperation between
State and Federal Governments he would like to see Government
Agencies and Departments relocated in whole or in part to rural or
remote areas. |
