Why
I am Standing
The
Democrats are the only political party in Australia with
integrity, the only party with consistent ideals that pro-actively
engage all members of society without prejudice. What’s more, the
Democrats are the only party that encourages debate within its
ranks and our greater communities to decern the most ethical and
realistic solution, rather than dictating to Australian’s what
they should need, as the major parties of Australia do.
As a
Member of Parliament I will actively seek out the best solutions
based on the issue, not ideology. I always endeavour to gain the
widest possible community perspective by talking to all members of
our community and hearing their side of the story.
Why should people vote for me?
I will listen, seek to understand, and show compassion, making
Adelaide world-renown for its cultural, social and technological
achievements.
About Me
A recent graduate of a Bachelor of International Studies at
Adelaide University, I have been an advocate for positive social
change in numerous community and international organisations.
Advancing the causes of young people through Tea Tree Gully Youth
Action and the Youth Affairs Council of South Australia, I sought
to empower young people in South Australia to achieve their
highest potential and develop opportunities for the
underprivileged. Volunteering internationally building houses with
Habitat for Humanity for impoverished communities has taught me
the significance of helping those in need, both here and abroad.
International micro-finance organisations such as Opportunity
International have shown me the importance of working together to
build sustainable communities, socially and economically. Finally,
as an elected Board Director last year of the Adelaide University
Union and an event organiser, I greatly value representation that
directly connects with people where they’re at, rather than where
the governing body would prefer them to be.
Key areas of concern:
1.
Ensuring all members of our community have the
opportunity to attain a high level of education and be active
contributors to Australian society.
2.
Increasing the quality and quantity of medical
services available in Australia and our region.
3.
Fostering an innovative and creative society that
is proud of its cultural achievements and supports an extensive
research and development program, acknowledging the potential
Australia has to be a world-leader in the arts and technology and
supporting it accordingly.
4.
Tackling Climate Change through practical and
sustainable solutions, hand-in-hand with the business and
community sectors and acknowledging their importance in our
society.
5.
Committing Australia to honour its international
obligations through the UN, to its regional neighbours, and to its
responsibilities to the developing world.
